Your Nextcloud noteson your phone.
OwnNotes is a client for the Notes app on your Nextcloud server. Notes stay plain Markdown files on your server; the app only reads and writes them.
Your server, your notes
Your notes are not parked in somebody else's storage. You enter the address of your own server and the phone talks to it directly. You need a Nextcloud server with the Notes app installed.

Notes are Markdown files on the server you choose. The app publisher has no access to them.

More than one account can be signed in at the same time.

No ads, no in-app purchases, no selling of data.
What the app does
An overview of what OwnNotes does with the notes from the Notes app.
- Writing offline
- Changes upload on their own when the connection is back, also while the app is closed.
- Plain Markdown
- The editor stays raw Markdown, preview only with its button. Tasks written as - [ ] can be ticked in preview.
- Search and sorting
- Search in the list and inside a note, categories, favorites, sorting and delete.
- Version conflicts
- When the same note changed elsewhere, both versions are shown and you choose. Nothing is overwritten silently.
- Share, import and export
- Share from other apps into a note, import from Google Keep (Google Takeout zip) and export as a zip.
- Lock and widget
- App lock with fingerprint or the phone PIN, screenshot blocking, and a home-screen widget with the latest notes.
Your notes without a signal
Notes are also kept in the app's database on the phone, so they open without a connection.
- You can write offline. Changes upload on their own as soon as the connection returns.
- Uploading also happens while the app is closed.
- On a conflict you see both versions of the note and choose yourself.
- All notes can be exported from the app as a zip.
Privacy and security
What is stored and what is sent is described in the privacy policy.
Password in the system vault
Sign-in uses Nextcloud Login Flow v2. The app password is kept in Android Keystore or Apple Keychain.
Reports without note content
Crash reports and statistics go to the publisher's own servers and contain no note text, titles or your server address.
Notes stay with you
Note content travels only between the phone and your Nextcloud server.
