OwnNotes

Features

What OwnNotes does: offline writing, Markdown, version conflict handling, search, Google Keep import, zip export, widget and app lock.

Sign-in

Sign-in runs through the browser, using Nextcloud Login Flow. The app password is kept in the phone's secure storage. Several accounts can be signed in at once.

Writing offline

Notes can be written without a connection. Changes upload on their own when the signal is back, also while the app is closed.

Markdown

The editor stays raw Markdown, and preview is switched on only with its button. Tasks written as - [ ] can be ticked directly in preview. Images attached to a note show in preview too.

Version conflicts

When the same note changed elsewhere in the meantime, the app shows both versions and lets you choose. Nothing is overwritten silently.

Search and management

You can search in the list and inside a note. Categories, favorites, sorting and delete are available.

Share, import and export

From other apps, use Share → OwnNotes to send text into a new or an existing note. Notes can be imported from Google Keep (Google Takeout zip) and exported as a zip.

Widget and lock

The home-screen widget shows the latest notes. The app can be locked with a fingerprint or the phone PIN, and screenshots can be blocked.

Requirements

A Nextcloud server with the Notes app installed. The app is built for Android and iOS.
